Detonating Device Cause fire at Florida shopping mall


On Sunday 21st January 2018, Florida shopping mall, Eagle Ridge Mall caught fire due to the explosion of the improvised detonating device.

According to Troy Schulze, the Lake Wales police Deputy Chief, the fire department received a call before 5:30 PM about the possible structure fire at the mall. When firefighters arrived with firefighting equipments at the scene, they head towards the area from where the smoke was coming, on searching they found an IED device that ignited inside the service corridor. They also found a bag containing other explosive devices inside it.

According to the Police, the devices were inside the plastic pipe and were flares wrapped with electrical tape, they were then ignited and set off.

The mall was evacuated on time and there were no damage or injuries except a minimal damage to a corridor wall and a drop ceiling.

Investigators didn’t find any other detonating device inside or outside the mall and they are looking for a suspect of middle age white man with a heavy or stocky build who was wearing a grey shirt and grey hat.
