Firefighters rescue man stuck in a printing press

An employee whose left arm became crushed in between two press rollers was liberated by the Bridgeport Fire Department

Accident doesn’t arrive with a bell on its neck. An employee at the Post Publishing Company was saved by firefighters after his arm got stuck in a machine Friday evening, fire officials said.

The Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to 600 State St. shortly after 5 p.m. "to extricate an employee whose left arm became wedged in between two press rollers," said Deputy Chief Lance Edwards.

Firefighters had to shut down power to the machine so crews could remove one of the rollers, Edwards said. Then, the fire personnel used hand tools as Emergency and Safety Product to remove the male employee's arm from the machine. It was a phase of hardship for the victim and that demanded a prompt action.

The victim suffered some injuries and so was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the accident and sent a representative to the spot to conduct an examination, Edwards said.
