More than 1,200 acres brush fire scorches in Winchester



On Thursday, a prompt brush fire has scorched hundreds of acres in the Winchester area of Riverside County and evacuations were in progress.

According to Cal Fire, forty percent of the fire was contained that estimated at more than 1,200 acres.

At about 2:20 p.m., the blaze commenced in the area of the 34000 block of Rawson Road, reported Riverside County fire officials.

Along with their Fire Safety Equipment, more than 70 firefighters reached the place.

An initial 8-acre grass fire was reported, which quickly grew with a light breeze out of the south to the north. Approximately six homes were under obligatory rescue orders and one unoccupied structure has been destroyed. The evacuation area includes Hidden Falls and Vista roads, Riverside County fire officials informed.



Investigations were underway to detect the cause of a fire.
