Firefighters Battle Shorewood House Fire in 90 Degree Temps



A house set on fire on Saturday afternoon in Shorewood when the homeowner saw smoke while he was mowing the lawn. He was able to get his family and their two pets to safety, according to fire officials.
Fire officials also informed that firefighters were called around 1:17 p.m. to a home on the 6200 block of Cathcart Drive. On the arrival of firefighters, both the house and garage were engulfed.

Excelsior Assistant Fire Chief Pat McCarthy said nearly 14 different departments brought resources and Emergency and Safety Products to their aid. He said they needed to extra reinforcements because of the temperatures. Two firefighters were hospitalized after their struggle with a blaze as the suffered from heat exhaustion.
An investigation is still under process to detect the cause of the fire.
