A four-year-old boy identified as John Bankes III was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. Firefighters kept struggling with the extintor to bring the fire under control, after which the child was found dead.
The reason of what caused the fire to spread so abruptly is still not known. Bartonville Police Chief Brian Fengel said the matter remains under investigation and he declined to give additional details.
Witnesses told Harwood that flames were coming out of the anterior part of the house, near where the young boy was found. Members of the American Red Cross were also on scene to assist the family.
