Clifton Park firefighters face high temperatures

The protecting gear can be hurting in the summer heat. Firefighter and Past Chief of the Clifton Park Fire Department Art Hunsinger said that summer is really difficult for firefighters. When they’re in their bunker gear working inside a working fire, they don’t notice the temperature fluctuations.

The Turnout Gear is made up of thickly insulated pants and jacket and a heavy helmet which when combines with the heat from a massive blaze can discomfort the firefighter’s body during the summertime.

“So we monitor very closely in these conditions,” Hunsinger says along with monitoring the firefighters for heat exhaustion, they set up cooling misters for their ease.
