On-Duty firefighter died in California
On
July 14, the official on-duty death of Firefighter/Equipment Operator Braden
Varney has been announced by the United State Fire Administration (USFA).
He
was assigned to the Madera-Mariposa CAL FIRE unit, which has been battling the
130-acre Ferguson Fire in the Sierra National Forest. On 7/14/2018,

Operator Varney was working on a ridge to create a fire break. Varney was
operating a bulldozer that overturned and rolled down the ridge leaving him
injured. On Sunday, the debris was noticed by airplane where crews reached the
site and removed Varney’s body on 07/16/2018. California Occupational Safety
and Health Administration proceeds to investigate the accident.
