Fentanyl-resistant Gloves Created to Keep the First Responders Safe From Fire Exposure

To keep first responders safe while treating overdose patients, fentanyl-resistant safety gloves have been created by the medical supply company Medline Industries.

Rhonda Baliff, the Medline industries employee said that many times, EMS providers have to go through very unsecured scenes. They don’t have any idea what they are getting into.

Baliff said that the new gloves arethicker, but they are thin enough.

“We don't want to make it so thick,” she said. “We have to make sure it's different grades through the palm and fingers, so that they can still do their job.

According to associate professor and chief of EMS in the division of emergency medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. David K. Tan with this gloves, the risk of transdermal exposure is very low. It’s not zero and certainly not impossible but extremely low.
